Frequently asked questions

›How are tokens billed?

Model usage is metered per token using the provider's list price for prompt, cached prompt and completion tokens, as reported by the provider. Streaming and non-streaming requests are billed identically.

›What is BYOK?

Bring Your Own Key: you add your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google API key. The provider bills you directly for tokens; RouteHaven charges only the BYOK platform fee (after your plan's free monthly allowance) from your prepaid balance.

›Can I pay RouteHaven for tokens instead of using my own keys?

Platform-billed access is enabled per provider only once a written reseller or distribution agreement with that provider is in place. Until then all production traffic uses BYOK. The models page shows which access type each model supports.

›Are failed or fallback attempts billed?

No. Only the attempt that succeeds is metered. If a stream is interrupted after tokens were generated, the generated tokens are billed.

›How do volume discounts work?

On Business and Enterprise, the platform fee drops automatically once your organization's month-to-date spend crosses each tier threshold.

›How do I pay?

Prepaid credits via card through Stripe on all plans. Enterprise customers can request invoicing and credit terms.

›Can I set budgets?

Yes — organization monthly limits, team monthly budgets, and per-key spend caps are enforced before a request is sent upstream.
